The Soybeans, They Are A-Changin’

If you look out over the field beside our house, you can see that some of the soybeans are starting to mature.

Our field is two-toned, if you will.

Please excuse the cotton trailer. We’re currently recovering from Sweetpea’s 5th birthday party…

Keith

Oh, where did that come from?!?!

… and we’re leaving it out until our haunted hayride in mid-October.

The Cotton Husband (Soybean Husband?) planted two different varieties of soybeans here and one is an early crop. I love the color soybeans turn as they mature - it’s an early shot of fall.

I’d love to tell you the exact variety but I really have no idea what they are. They are an early variety. That’s what I heard CH (SH?) and I’m sticking with that. They’re an early variety.

Why are they planted in the same field?  Uhhhhh.

What are the benefits to doing this? Hmmmmm.

Which one yields the most beans? ::throat clearing::

Thank y’all for visiting this specific, informative agricultural site and have a great day!

  • Great use of photos to tell a funny story. Thanks for making me chuckle…

    ::throat clearing:: just a hoot!

  • Ahhhh, I love soybean fields and staring at them mindlessly for long periods of time.

I was out taking pictures of the fields surrounding our house last weekend. Ours are already all golden and getting ready for harvest.

  • Why is it so hard to get information? tee hee
The soy beans here are still green. They will soon start turning as the temps at night are getting cooler.

  • Uhhh, y’all planning to pull that trailer with the tractor in the picture? :)

  • Darn it! I had a little bet going (Yes, with myself. I am lame.) that it would be the FIFTH commenter who asked that question! :)

  • HA! I didn’t even think about that when I saw the little tractor. So when is the haunted hayride? Count me in.

  • The others beat me to it! I think you need to put that little tractor in front of that trailer and take a picture!!!!!! Oh, and have CH attempting to sit in it with that hat.

  • Nice sneak-in of the balloon hat..

  • Love the balloon hat. You can tell he was to take it off, but he’s being such a good guy for Sweet Pea’s bday! :) Very good post.

A few fields of dryland beans are being harvested now.

  • Loved this post. I smiled from beginning to end.

  • I love the colors, too! VERY fall!

    Gorgeous!

Greens and golds and reds…. God-made and man-made — great post!

    Blessings!

  • Great pictures..as usual!! Because of you, my dh was SO impressed with me the other day!!! We were driving by a field that was full of soybeans…my husband said, “I wonder what that is growing…whatever it is, it still hasn’t been harvested.” I said, in my oh-so-smart tone, “Oh, that’s soybeans.” He did a double take, to see if I was serious. I told him I was sure that’s what they were because they looked just like the CottonWife’s. “Wow”, he said, quite impressed with my new agricultural knowledge!!! (In these parts, we don’t have a lot of soybeans.) Thanks!

  • I was wondering about that tractor pulling the trailer too. lol But I see someone beat me to it. darnit.
